The Oriental Ceramic Society is very fortunate to receive sponsorship and other support from a number of institutions and individuals. This allows us to support a vibrant programme of lectures and related events, whilst keeping our membership fees affordable.
In particular, we are able to offer four annual specialized lectures on jades, paintings and ceramics thanks to the following sponsors:
- Woolf Charitable Trust Jade Lecture,
- Sonia Lightfoot Memorial Paintings Lecture
- Sir Michael Butler Memorial Lecture (ceramics)
- Mok Hing Yiu Charitable Foundation Lecture (export ceramics)
We are also very grateful to those auction houses that support and fund some of our other lectures and receptions, namely Bonhams, Christie’s, Sotheby’s, Woolley & Wallis, Duke’s and Dreweatts.
The Society has benefited from bequests for the Hills Gold Medal (which the Society awards to distinguished scholars in the field of Asian art), and the George de Menasce Memorial Trust Fund (given mainly to researchers who need financial assistance, e.g. for travel expenses). The Chinese Scholars Fund has enabled scholars from China to visit the UK, leading to a lecture, then published in our annual journal The Transactions of the Oriental Ceramic Society.
We would be extremely happy to discuss possible sponsorship projects, donations and bequests, for instance in connection with our centenary exhibition in 2021, ‘Collectors, Connoisseurs, Curators: A Century of the Oriental Ceramic Society’. You can also support the Society by becoming a Patron Member (£300 per year), or by remembering us in your will. Please contact our Secretary, Mary Painter, for more details.
